Located on an island in the Gulf of Mannar, Rameswaram is connected to the mainland by the Indira Gandhi Bridge, which is regarded as one of India's engineering wonders. Shore Temple (Mamallapuram)
Beautiful and romantic, this temple ravaged by wind and sea, represents the final phase of Pallava art. Originally built around the middle of the 7th century, the temple's two main spires contain shrines for Shiva. There is a third and earlier shrine that is dedicated t Vishnu. These temples are now protected from any further erosion by a huge rock wall.

Calimere Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary
This 333 sq km sanctuary is just 90kms south-east of Thanjavur. Noted for its vast flocks of migratory waterfowl, Calimere's tidal mud flats are home to many birds. Some of which include teal, curlews, plovers, shanks and herons during the months of November through to January and during February and March birds such as Koel and barbets come here to feed on the wild berries.
Madurai Market
Just north of Sri Meenakshi Temple in Madurai is the Madurai Market. It's a labyrinth of laneways packed with aromatic herbs. A flower market is also located adjacent in a nondescript cement buliding.
