Ladakh and Zanskar

Ladakh Festival is held in the first two weeks of September. There is a colourful display of dancing, sports etc.

Trekking is very popular in Zanskar. Trekking is best left to October when the roads are safe and clear of snow.

Leh's Victory Fort was built in the 16th century to celebrate the victory over the Balti-Kashmiri army.

Namgyal Tsemo Gompa was built in 1430 and contains a three story Buddha image with ancient manuscripts and frescoes. The fort above the temple is in ruines but the view is superb.

Buddhism courses are available in Leh and Choglamsar.
